I liked the story, but execution left me a little bored. The book takes place in the present but the first 25% of the book spends that time having the main characters THINKING about what happened 7 years ago. Just start the dang book at the beginning so we can SEE it, not be told about it. Sean is an intriguing, sexy guy. Cassie has promise, then goes off the rails because the author doesn't quite know how to introduce an obstacle to the romance without making the woman come off as weak and insecure. She pretty much knows what tanked their relationship before and SETS IT UP TO HAPPEN AGAIN!!

All I Want for Christmas The McKinnon Brothers Book 1 edition by Jennifer Gracen Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I bought this book some time ago, but somehow it got lost in the jumble of books on my . Sad, in one way, because this is a wonderful story of second chances. But on the other hand I ended up reading it when I really, really needed it most, so maybe it was meant to be?

Jennifer Gracen has become one of my go-to authors for the kind of intensely emotional stories I love best. Cassie and Sean's love story delivered that for me...in spades. I could see myself as Cassie, and every emotion she was experiencing rang true, especially since Sean had broken her heart years before. And yet, I ached for Sean, too, and empathized with his deep-rooted insecurities that had caused him to break things off with Cassie the first time around.

I only had one grievance--Cassie's willingness to put up with sexual harassment from the head of her department because "that's the way it has always been." Things will never change unless we make them change. I gave Sean full marks for standing up and saying it wasn't right (and he wasn't only saying it because Cassie was his girlfriend.)

Other than that, this was a thoroughly enjoyable emotional read I couldn't put down...even though I read it on May 1st and NOT around Christmas!
A stand alone read with a HEA. I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was well written, great characters, loved the hero. The story is about second chances. A young love, she a budding star in the world of academics. She is on her way to a Ph.D. in English Literature. He is a young Irish immigrant. He makes his way by playing gigs in various bars around New York. These two come together to make a very unlikely pair. However, there connection is strong and they each believe the other is the love of their life. But then she invites him to a party at the university where she is being considered for studies to further her degree. He goes with her and realizes the difference in their lifestyles and where they are going in this lifetime. It is cruelly pointed out to him by one of the "jerks" at the party. He knows it but it prays on his mind that being an uneducated immigrant would truly hold her back and in the end she would come to resent him. So, he cuts her loose.

This is the story of the 7 years that she spent getting over him and getting on with her degree and her career. But then one night during the holiday season she goes into a bar to get off the cold, windy street in New York and there behind the bar he is making drinks. This is the story of their second chance. There is a lot they need to work through to even see if they can forgive and move on and if they have a future together. I loved this hero. I thought he was so sweet and so sincere and he deserved a second chance.

I like the heroine. I could understand her angst and her fear of giving him another chance. I was on her side until the Christmas party. I thought she was a total Witch to treat him like she did after he opened his heart to her. I was sad that it took her 4 days to realize her actions were even worse than his were. I was a little peeved too that she let him grovel and beg and she never owned up to HER ACTIONS. He was right in the university thing. Just the threat to the "head" of sexual harassment and he would have backed off. She choose the wrong way to deal with it, IMHO. It was so like what has erupted in Hollywood. To protect my career, I will say nothing. But, I really felt she should have owned up to her behavior and not let him take all the blame. I would like to know what the tattoo on his hip was!!!

It is a really good story. Very entertaining and I love second chance romances. I definitely recommend the book. It is a good read and some good lessons to boot!

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/26/18
I grew up in the 80's when Harlequin ruled the romance roost. The men were...manly and I don't know nothing ever felt "real" about them. The plots, the characters, nothing. Jennifer Gracen has made me believe in realistic romance characters, and 'All I Want For Christmas' might be getting me one step closer to being a fan of the genre.

While I admit to having a weakness for charismatic Irishmen named Sean, there was much more to this story that I loved. I'm a sucker for reunions too, which was what drew me to the story, and this one was really well done. And whew...don't get me started on the internal conflict. It made my stomach twist on more than one occasion but it was given just enough spotlight. Bundle that all up with the magic of Christmas and this story is nothing short of a treat. It will make you believe in the true power of love.
Pretty good contemporary romance!

The good Relateable characters, believable romance. Loved the hero! He had just enough Irish brogue to be sexy without being over done. The author did a great job writing the love story, and the conflict.

The bad I felt she gave in a bit too quick after the first meeting. As much as he hurt her, you think she would have been angrier or gotten away from him faster. It also needed a bit more of an ending. Small epilogue or even a few more sentences. Other than that, no complaints.

Overall It was a fun story, very well done. I enjoyed it and would suggest it to my friends.
